... and Matt took 1st place in Pork Steaks! Woo Hoo! Unbelievable! - He's only done pork steaks twice, ever! Once the night before the contest, and once at the contest. AND he got a near perfect score - which is impressive. They judge on appearance, taste, and tenderness.
The prizes were - this funky "trophy" - a piece of wood engraved with all the info, a cast iron skillet set (which he has always wanted), a ribbon and a small amount of cash.
Saturdays categories didn't go as well - with strong winds they had a hard time controling the temperature in the pit and did not turn out their best meats ever. You would hardly know it to sample the left overs! Thats good stuff!
It was great to hear the girls so excited about it! Isabel praised Matt up and down telling him it was going to be just beautiful and that his barbeque was the best ever and that she couldn't wait until the next competition!

OH - also - 2 years ago he was asked to be published in a BBQ desk calendar. The guy promised free copies and all sorts of things. We figured we never hear from him again. So surprise when they start handing out free BBQ desk calendars at the contest. Matt is on June 2nd!

Way to go Matt! That's awesome! Too bad for the wind on Saturday though. Did you ask where you could buy more of those calendars? Too bad they don't have Matt's picture on it too. That is cool though.
