This is a night for a rambling....

The Birthday
The 5 year old birthday was a fun, volatile and interesting day. We woke up to thunder, lightning and pouring rain so the playing with the trampoline birthday present was a bust. Thankfully it warmed up and dried out considerably by the time school was out! Poor Izzy was so tired and emotional though - we had to send friends home early because she was just a mess. We made it to dinner at Red Robin where Izzy thouroughly enjoyed the attention, being sung to and her loverly gifts. She got a few things from each Grandparents, and 2 things from us. Just enough to be special and fun but not too much to have to buy a new shelving unit or build an addition on to our house. I feel good about the decision that she and I made to ask her guests to bring donations to a horse rescue facility - to her birthday party - in lieu of presents. I have really enjoyed listening to her tell her friends about the horses and why they need money and to not be so worried about herself for a change. (Click on invitation pic about 9ish posts back to see the details about the donations and party)

The Shirt
After dinner we went to Kindergarten round up which was super fun - it was crazy how people treated Izzy all night... she was wearing a my little pony Birthday Girl tee shirt - and she was more than happy to tell every one who looked her direction that she was 5! We were talking to the Parents As Teachers director and this little girl stepped right between us all and began singing the happy birthday song, the director called over all the various Principal's to meet the birthday girl, and as we were walking various places kids in cars stuck their heads out to scream Happy Birthday! The T shirt I guess??? No one has ever treated me like that on MY birthday - guess I need the shirt, or maybe not.

Game of the week
Evidentally even with the new trampoline, friends, school. gifts. outings and other fun things we do - life is just frankly too boring for my poor girls to bear - so tonight they came up with a new game.
Here are the rules
1. Find any pile of clean, freshly folded clothing
2. Very politely and squeaky sweet say "excuse me Mommy" as you pass by with the clothes in hand, giving off the impression of responsibly putting the clothing away.
3. Throw the clothing into the air as hard as you can while screaming yea!!! or yahoo!!! - and hoping that you can get it stuck on the ceiling fan.
4. When you have had your fill of throwing - and/or the fan is full - turn the fan on and watch the clothes fly across the room.
5. Repeat as often as needed or until you see your Mom/ raging bull running towards you with flames shooting from her ears
6. Run. Fast! and hide before she can see you!

Cool Stuff
I downloaded Photoshop Elements again to use the trial version since I haven't used it on this computer yet - and as we speak it is checking all my photos for red eye and correcting it as it uploads them to the harddrive! Is that cool or what?

Fly Grave Yard
This is gross in a lot of ways... but funny.
Last summer Alex somehow got the idea that flies needed a place to go - dead or alive. She was 1 1/2 and not at all bothered by the little buggers. She could walk up to the glass door where they would be buzzing and pick them right up with her fingers - or she would find them dead and collect them. I guess I never really knew what she did with them, I never noticed anything innapropriate or suspicious until one day when I was sitting in the living room with my visiting teachers. Here comes little Alex, a fly in each hand, heading straight for the air vent on the floor by the bay window. Now at that point I had a vague recollection of hearing something about little flies going home, I guess I hadn't thought too much of it until that moment as I watched her bend over and very gently place the 2 dead flies into the vent and say "goodbye little flies" before going back for more!!!!
Well, I guess I never got around to cleaning out that vent - eeeewwwww!!!! So, today when I went to close all the downstairs vents I picked up the cover and suddenly swoosh!!! the air was filled with tons of little dead flies bouncing around on the blowing air!!! and, directly into my face! I had a little filter in the vent to clean and freshen the air - imagine the fresh summery smell of dried, dead, flies!
