Best Day Ever

We started a brisk morning at MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY - with the world’s best service project.

For the 2nd year in a row we decorated the playground area - of a local park - with Christmas lights. (Click here to learn more) By December the park opens for Train Rides, sleigh rides, old fashioned strolls, and car rides ... through the millions of lights and displays. We were treated this year to reindeer antlers and a picnic lunch for our efforts! After the service project we headed south to Sister Beer's farm. Back in the spring we bought a day of horseback riding at our Annual Youth Auction. The auction raises funds for the youth to go girls camp and Boy Scout camps and High Adventures.

We met

Tige - the black Tenesse Walking Horse

and

Fuzz- the brown Thoroughbred.

As well as Fritz, Dancer, Kat, Galiath, Moon, and 5 other beauties who’s names I have already forgotten.

We each had a turn riding, and then the girls took another, and another, and another!!! Then they each wanted a turn walking the horses!

The girls got to help take the saddles off and brush the horses after riding.

THEN, we all got to feed them a treat - a little horse biscuit.

As soon as the word got out that we had treats the horses began to kick their stalls with their hooves, and calling to us. When all the horses had been treated - Sister Beer began to turn them out!

This was MY personal favorite part of it all. As each horse had his head barely through the door jam - they would begin to whinny, some would break out into a trot and nearly every horse took a turn in the sunny spot, rolling around on their back! They were happy, frisky, and talkative. Some even began to run together. Funny thing was that as each horse was brought out, the other horses had to see what was going on and would come to look out over the 1/2 door to see who was coming next. They were incredibly friendly and curious about us, very gkentle and interested in the children.

We thought this would be heaven for Isabel - BUT –

it is really hard to say who was the happier of the 2 girls!

To top off a perfect day, we roasted marshmallows over a fire and enjoyed yummmmmmy smores!

My epiphany of the day is that:

it is inevitable, I am going to have to reconcile my opposition to Dirt! Ugh!
