So we survived our 1st Swim Meet!
After a rescheduling due to massive flooding and
mudslides into the pool (YUM!)
we ended up with a lovely
97 degree evening and a few more days to
psych ourselves up for it!
--------------
Miss Izzy - now know as the Crazy Puffer Fish - was PUMPED beyond belief - which was awesome. She went off the starting blocks during the warm ups -which she refused to do during practices. She also improved her "technique" with each race. By her last race she swam about 1/4 of the distance with out resting on the ropes or stopping in the water.
--------------
We learned that the home team gets to sit in the shade. WOO HOO! Which gives us very important inside information like...
- when we go to an away game = take umbrella's for shade
- freeze our water soaked clothes before wearing
still we will sweat off 3 inches of skin, fat and brain cells and grow malignant sun tumors in 3 places and finally in a fit of psychosis due to our brains being cooked we'll run, madly flailing our arms about - straight in to the pool in the middle of the 16-17 year old Individual Medley.
We join in with our LDS/ Neighborhood/ Swim Team comrade's in a good old fashioned potluck dinner - which last night consisted of Sloppy Joes, Corn on the Cob, Chips and Home Made Salsa, Watermelon and Ice Cold water! It is doubly fun to have so many friends to be cheering on!
---------------
We even got to watch Daddy and 3 other guys we know swim in the coaches race. It did not turn out as daddy had hoped - because the other team did not bring enough coach swimmers - but Daddy gave us a good showing in the water - and lots of reasons to hoot and holler!
So, now we get a whopping 3 days to recuperate
and pysch ourselves up for the next Meet on Monday!
--------------
So - a little about Puffer Fish. We recently acquired a new family member (more about this in another post) a Fire Bellied Toad. In our quest for the little guy we happened upon a school of puffer fish at the local wally world. They are about as absolutely adorable as a fish can possibly get and they have teeny tiny little fins that they flap at a furious speed.
--------------
Well we used the puffer fish to encourage Izzy - because winning a chocolate bar just wasn't doing it for her ?? CONFUSED LOOK FROM MOM ON THIS ONE!???
--------------
Puffer fish aren't scared of the deep end - they love it - they love to dive and swim in all the deep places in the ocean....
or
Go little Puffer Fish - Swim like a puffer fish - etc. etc.
--------------
Thankfully, Fire Bellied Toads require bottled water - because that's what they are used to swimming in - in the depths of the tropical rain forests right????
- AND -
Puffer Fish swim in salt water.
So all is well.

Swim Team! thats a cool sport to get them in :)
ReplyDeleteI've had 3 fire bellied toads. I have lots of inside info on them. I hope you are ok with live crickets cuz they are their favorite food. 1/2 water 1/2 land terrain worked best cuz they like to hang out or swim in the water sometimes but other times they just like to chill. They like something to hide in, a rock or trees (I would go with plastic.) River vs small fish pebbles works much better. You can get some polished river rocks at Michaels for probably cheaper then the pet store. or online.
They are a lot of work so good luck and have fun.
I'm sure you are doing this already but Wash your hands after touching them. Besides possible salmonelia they are a teeny tiny bit poisonous. Mostly just when they eat though. I wouldnt let it stop you from playing with or holding them sometimes. They get lonely so a friend can be useful. BUT don't put it near where you sleep or think cuz they bark when they mate and you wont be able to sleep.
