The Good
Hmmm, I wrote these from bottom to top. Weird I know. But now I can't remember what the good thing was that I wanted to write about. Maybe a little list then...
- I'm at 21 weeks. Half way done and feeling about 90% well!
- My A1C was 5.3 (EXCELLENT!!!)_and my net weight gain is ZEROOOOO!!!!
- Izzy is starting to get her swimming strokes down and she is a super speedy fast KICKER on her back. Back stoke girl maybe? Swim team starts on Thursday!!!!
- Matt's work is going well
- Only 2 days left of school
Oh, ok here it is! See I knew I'd find it.
After a little struggling with our interest in reading - this last week Isabel sat down with a magazine and just started reading! She sat there for 5 minutes and read through an entire story (about princess none the less) while I watched in glee and awe.
Sunday, when our home teachers came over - I tossed her THE FRIEND to keep her a little more still and quiet than usual - and she devoured it, dog-earring pages she wanted to go back to and everything!
That felt really good to see her finally finding enjoyment in reading!!!!!

The Bad
This weekend Matt catered 3 graduations. While he toiled away in the sun and smoke us girls did some gardening.
When I (Becca) requested a dripping hose, the girls came back reporting it was broken, not attached, not producing water, etc. I didn't believe them, didn't really think about it. I figured I'd just get up and do it myself when I needed it.
45ish minutes later - when Matt was out making his first delivery - I cleaned up in the front yard and moved on to check on some things on the deck when I heard the sound of GUSHING water. With panic it suddenly dawned on me WHY the hose didn't work!
See, Matt ingeniously built a spigot into his smoker which has its own hose. When he smokes he detaches the front yard hose and hooks up his own hose.
SO - for 45 min or more HIS hose had been turned on at full blast and running water through the base of the smoker!
Not only was there NO fire, the water pan and base were full and FLOWING, the patio area flooded and the meat well, it had a lovely steam bath from the water that had apparently boiled!
A quick rinse, a re-rub, a drying out of the smoker and a new fire, produced lovely ribs a few hours later. They fell off the bone and tasted better than the pulled pork that had been smoked in the customary fashion.
I was convinced that he had discovered a great new way to prepare his meat. Unfortunately it is a method that could never be reproduced in a competition and was way too scary to repeat anyway.

The Weird
My dyed in the wool jean & tennis shoe lover - hater of all things pink and girly....
stomped her foot in rebuttal when I told her that she couldn't wear a white SKIRT with a white tee and pink vest - to go play outside. She said to me - "I don't care what I wear as long as it is pink!"
The previous week I bought her a new Maxi dress - pink with huge yellow flowers - adorable. She wanted to wear it to school?!?!?
The final weirdness - before bed she told me what she wanted to wear to school the next few days -she has never wanted to be bothered to think about what she wears, as long as it is comfy and not too cutesy she always says "just pick something for me mom".
So, we sat her down and said "Izzy what has happened to you?" she says that ever since Logan's Tea Party birthday something just changed in her mind.
Another "HUH?" moment!
You guys always have some type of excitement going on whether it be good or bad.
ReplyDeleteI can picture Izzy sitting there reading. I miss that girl. My goal is to focus a lot on reading this Summer.
& that hose issue. It's sad that we don't always listen to our kids as well as we should. I'm glad it worked out okay in the end.
It will be so fun to see you all soon.
Love ya.
