This is our sweet Jasmine
She was the first feral cat that we caught, vaccinated and had neutered, she was approx 4 months old
(yes neutered, we thought he was a she)
She was the brother to Sebastian, and Stuart - and 1/2 brother to Tiger and Shadow
Nacho and Elmo loved her easily and took care of her, she found safety with them
over the years she became comfortable being around us
and sometimes we could pet her when we fed her or played with her.
She had the most beautiful silvery fur and loving eyes.
When we moved to St. Louis she had relaxed a lot and we could pick her up and love her on occasion.
Then she started to get sick. 1st her fur became matted, she was ravenous and
then she lost weight and became very thin.
She also became suddenly terrified of everyone.
At the end she was so cold that she would sleep on the heater vents,
and poor thing would just leak everywhere.
Our sweet vet was so gentle with her and with us -
telling us that what ever was wrong was probably treatable but
since we can't handle her - daily treatment would be difficult to impossible.
She told us that we gave her a better life than she ever would have had in the wild.
She also told us that the girls should write letters to Jesus asking him to take care of her for them
(I think saying a prayer will be sufficient)
and that all the children in heaven love to have animals with them too.
It was a privildge to work with Jasmine.
I will never forget her sweet eyes, watching hungrilly as she would wait for me on the hill by the fence.
I would talk to her and sing to her before giving her treats.
That winter I NEVER got sick.
I think it is because I spent so much time outdoors in the cold.
She is the 1st cat that we haven't been able to bury at home.
We will have her ashes though to plant with a tree.

Oh Becca, I'm sorry. You guys have lost a lot of pets. That is so hard! But it was a beautiful post for her.
ReplyDeleteJasmine is so beautiful/handsome. This is something that it so hard. I'm so glad that your paths merged so she could have the lovely life you gave her.
ReplyDeleteJasmine was so pretty. I cried at the end. Hayden saw me tear up and told me to stop. He doesn't like it when I do that. Sometimes I don't want animals because I don't want to deal with the attachment and heartache of losing them in such a relatively short time. But, I can't imagine not having one. You were definitely a life saver to her. You were pretty amazing that year.
ReplyDeleteAnd I did it and already pressed "post comment" before I could fix it... Him. not her I meant Him. It's just too confusing Becca.♥
ReplyDeleteJust like Nacho. He's big but acts like a girl. Hehe. ya know.? ok I'm done.
