#13 What do you think of the saying, "blood is thicker than water.

Blood is 95% Water and 5% other materials, therefore, Blood is thicker than water. Other than that - I believe it means something about loyalty. I've pondered this for a couple days - and haven't come very far in my conclusions except for these few points.

According to this saying/myth:

1) We are born with water in our veins - having no loyalty - We may develop bonds and deep connections with our care givers - if they provide healthy and consistent care - but essentially infants are selfish in that they are devoted to or caring only for oneself; concerned primarily with one's own interests,

(or if they provide unhealthy or inconsistent care we may develop disturbing and detrimental bonds - but THAT is a whole other can of worms)

2) At some point in development some humans may develop blood in their veins and it will happen to be thicker than the water that previously ran through. What brings about the change? Perhaps, love, maturity, challenging life experiences, time.....

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO ME?

I can say...

that the blood running through the veins in our home - is much thicker than it used to be. Thicker between the kids, thicker between mom & dad, thicker between parent and child.

For sure in the family I grew up in - it is also much thicker than it used to be. There are some veins that have been compromised, suffering trauma, and they have returned to a state of water - hopefully just while the healing happens. But for the rest of us - there is much more loyalty, connection, interest than there used to be.

It's good. We need each other. We love each other. We are all getting better at it.
