As I got into the heart of the matter, the root area, I wondered how I could have ever missed the reddish purple pipes running right through the center of the garden. AND THEN, I said to myself, Becca, there are no pipes running through your flower garden. I took my hoe and dug and the reddish, purplishness and lo and behold
we freakin' grew something!
Not just any old something like a whole load of these humungo tuber things.
So, here is the deal.
I bought one measly little sweet potato vine. I removed it from its little plastic container and set it ON TOP OF THE MULCH amongst the vinca minor that was already filling most of the garden. I did not dig! I did not plant. I merely set it there.
Now this thing took off like wild fire, sprouting stems and shoots and runners, it was bright and green and full.
A little spit here and there, leave it in the sunshine and it flourished. AND NOW we see that it has delivered us these mighty gems.Don't know what the heck we will do with them. BUT MAN that is my kinda plant!
That's funny. I guess it's good to get surprise food in your garden you did not know about. I can't believe that is what was under all of that plant. I wonder what would have happened if you actually planted it and took care of it? hmmmm...
ReplyDeleteThis isn't the comment you were looking for, but I can't stop chuckling about the word Tuber. I think it's hilarious. It's an excellent insult. "You're such a TUBER!!" It could even be a substitute for a swear word. "OH TUBER!" Or it could be a term of endearment. "My sweet little tuber."

Cute Barn swallows!!!! They are adorable. I have to say they are the cutest of baby birds. I was thinking you just saw them until I finally saw the date under the picture.
