Christmas Letter 2008

Please forgive the forgoing of my absolutely most favorite of all holiday traditions, the mailing of a traditional card boasting photo's of my precious little ones. I promise to not let it become a habit! I hang the cards I receive in the front room immediately upon receiving them (after checking to make sure I have all the pertinent address information, of course).

Last year I kept them up all year because I couldn't bear to put all your beautiful faces away in a dark tub somewhere. So, for as much as I love my blog - this is merely a feeble excuse of a Christmas card/letter due to circumstances - always, the dreaded circumstances.

So, as promised to many I will leave you with a story. It is the story behind the pictures. The story that would be best told if only someone could have been there to take my picture, the photographer, and captured the looks on MY face throughout the process.

The curls are set, the dresses donned, and the princess alight their carriage eager to begin the journey to the pond. Prancing and skipping then ensues as the mid morning walk about the lake unfolds into a glorious day. Warm sun, cool air, cheerful smiles, spinning skirts and happy dancing princesses.... All is well. All is beautiful. The task draws near the end and the party takes a moment to rest in the shade of the gazebo, pleased so far. And then, disaster strikes! There is NO MEMORY CARD IN THE CAMERA!

Tears well up, the temptation to lay blame builds, sighs, shaking heads, disappointment, sadness, remembering that last pose, ohhh that one was sooo good!

Innocence is bliss, the princesses dance their way back to the waiting carriage, but before long even they are overcome by the monster that is seeping its way into the hearts of the once cheerful party. We Are HUNGRY!

Determined to not be UN DONE by trivial details the memory card is retrieved and the party sets out once again in search of new territory. (In hopes that new surroundings will inspire renewed vigor in the littlest princesses).

Once around the pond right? pose, smile, click, a few times and poof! NOT! The curls, now flat, the smiles gone, don't look to close lest you spy a tear escaping the eyes of the once jubilant!

Finally, maybe, we are satisfied, and the princess take in a moment of play upon the rocks which border the pond. Picturesque, this is the moment, surrounded by weeping willows, dappled sunlight, Princess sisters at their best.

At just this quaint, serene moment, the littlest princess stands up, her skirts a new color, dark, wet, is it the dust and dirt of the rocks? Ah, it is a puddle, a mud puddle. Hey, wait! That puddle was not there before! Bigger sister princess stands her ground and shrieks! It is a piddle puddle! She has piddled in the dirt and is playing in a piddle puddle!

Alas, the photographer is eternally grateful for carriages with heat, large cargo areas for changing princesses into clean princess attire, and for pre-shrunk, machine washable princess gowns.

On a cleaner, tidier note....

Our hearts go out to you! We love you, we miss you, YES YOU! Our lives are richer, stronger, better because we have known you!

God be with you always!

The blessings of this joyous season be upon you!

With Love
