on the truck a couple of weeks before Christmas!

We didn't know about it the 1st year we lived here -
we nearly broke ourselves trying to get down the
stairs fast enough to get a glimpse.
Same thing the second year - because we
had already forgotten that they came around.

The third year they came while we were working on our gingerbread house. My heart sank when I heard the truck because I thought it was something serious - then it dawned on me, ah yeah duh! It's Santa!
This year they put signs up - to help all the ding a lings like me.
So, we were ready and waiting!
I'm getting better at night pictures but I just couldn't get the lights of the truck to show up!
It was bitter sweet this year however,
just 2 nights previous one of our neighbors lost all of their garage
and a good portion of their house to a fire that started in their garage from a car.
Coldest night of the year too! The salt trucks ran all night trying to keep the streets from becoming an ice skating rink - although that could be a good way to raise money!
We know our fire department well - it is always the same guys that come to the preschool and the elementary school and the fireworks at the Delmar Gardens parties that they throw for our neighborhood. It is like having a fire department just for our little neighborhood.
Anyway, I found my self wishing we had bought a few tubes of glow sticks and wrote THANKS OFALLON FD on our drive way.
On the "Becca's fear of fire" note:
later night of the fire I was home alone and the heater wasn't working and I was scared to try to make it work, I was scared to use the fireplace, it was all I could do to go get a space heater to use until Matt got home! The fear is subsiding again some now with the passing of time.
Oh and also Alex had previously suggested
MOM let's hurry home, I've never seen a house on fire! Geez!

How fun! I didn't know they did that. or if you told me I forgot. that is cool. They look cute all snuggled in their blankets.
ReplyDeleteThat is so sad and scary about the neighbors house! Who was it? How did the car start it?
If you come into our village from the other entrance there is a house that has 2 garages and 1 of the garages has a lift - it is on the corner - and he always did TONS of really cool christmas lights and stuff.... well thats the one. He restores old cars and he had 6!!! well we just saw today when they had some of the boards down that there are still 2 cars in the garage and they look all melty & ashy. Very sad. I guess he was working on one of them and it caught fire and sparks started flying etc. etc. we don't know more than that specifically.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your neighbors.
ReplyDeleteThe Santa/Firetruck tradition is a great one AND your blog is still snowing on me, so I'm good with that!
