Writing Prompt #5 free writing

Foreword:
I have signed up to write a post a day in February - using writing prompts through a website called NaBloPoMo. (National Blog Posting Month) Since I am currently working to both improve the quality of my blog and the quality of my writing it seemed like a good fit to me.

February 2012 Theme is: RELATIVE

freewriting
It's all relative.... truly it is.  We are feeling a little cramped getting used to our new space here.  It will be ok in time - I know it will, it is simply an adjustment.  Well we have been here 6 months now - and I keep reminding myself of something that happened when we first moved in.

A pipe had burst in the basement so after several futile attempts to remedy the situation we called a guy in.  After he had done his work and was leaving he paused and looked around and said "this sure is a nice big house!"

I want to rearrange furniture - switch rooms and the like.  I am still constantly purging stuff trying to make things work right in here.  I think a lot of it is inside of me.  I feel claustrophobic. Things get messy easier in a smaller space.  I do think I will adjust over time.  Until then I am remembering to be grateful and happy.  We do still have one of the bigger houses around us, and it is at least twice the size of the mini house we had in KC.

So you see, all relative.

I guess the other thing is the weather.

The days drag us deep into winter - even this weird snow-less - cold-less - winter - and skin cracks and flakes and hurts.  Then from the shadows sneaks out a light rain on a 65 degree day - and the humidity is a shocking feeling.  I had already forgotten what humidity felt like.

Some may bicker over which is hotter a humid 95 degrees or 112 in the desert sun.  Don't argue I say.  Just take a plane between Phoenix and the Midwest in the dead of summer and you'll figure it out.  1 will smack you in the face like a brick wall.  The other will suck all the air from your lungs as you step from the plane - you'll feel like you are drowning.

Additionally - 65 degrees in January feels so different mentally than 65 degrees in July.  Is it different? Or is it just relative.

  1. 65 degrees in January is different mentally because it's invigorating when needed most. Its beautiful, refreshing and such a great time to work out and start a new year. 70 degrees today and 40-45 at night. I still get to bundle up looking at the stars. I get to run right after work all the way through May. Every Sunday afternoon basking in the beautiful sun and weather while we eat lunch on the porch or lay in the grass. There's no better way to soak in the Vitamin D.

I will hibernate inside during the day from Mid June - late August. This is when the mountains call us home and camping is our new home. But by September we are back to afternoon picnics, hiking and after work runs.
