What a weird quote.
All happy families resemble one another
I am sure it is true - if you looked closely at families who are happy - there would be key components that are consistent among them. Ironically I would bet that these components aren't surprising or even difficult. Maybe they would be things like trust, honor, loyalty, shared interests and common goals, healthy boundaries, good communication. They would spend frequent quality time together, and would treat each other with respect. Surely they must have good problem solving skills - and a good decision making paradigm. I don't think socio-economic status is necessarily a factor.
Each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way
It doesn't take much to make an unhappy family. One big thing that shakes the faith or trust of even one family can be catastrophic. In that light - every family faces something, some problem, tragedy, life long trial, something that wears down their defenses, tests their faith, intellect and problem solving. Perhaps each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way - because each family does have its own unique set of circumstances.
BUT, I am sure that the families who are happy - are surely not with out problem, tragedy, trial - but perhaps they are able to navigate their trials better than other families and find happiness even in the face of difficult times.
